Last Night as a Quad-ped

This is Mack’s last night with four legs. We leave bright and early in the morning to drop him off for surgery. We had several talks with the kids about what is going to happen. They seem to be handling the news better than mommy and daddy…after the initial tears, of course. We’ve shown them lots of pictures thanks to Tripawds.com and explained the bottom line – a three-legged Mack is better than a very, very sick Mack or worse, no Mack at all.

This video was the kids a few hours after our initial talk:

It is also our last video footage of Mack walking on all four legs. 🙁
While I know in my heart that it is one thing for Donny and Kinsey to be ok with the “idea” of Mack as a Tripawd, I know that it is quite another thing for them to see him for the first time post op. Thanks for all the pictures of post op dogs here. We will do our best to prepare everyone for his return.

Wish us all well! Mack has his loving human family and his sister, Rozee, waiting for his return home.

  1. I hope you do really well tomorrow, Mack. And after, maybe you and I could play snuggle or something. You’re cute. Where do you live?

Here are the good things about tomorrow:
    1. No more hurting. If it doesn’t hurt yet, then it will never give you the awful pain that cancer causes.

    2. You might get Velveeta with your pills in it.

    3. Everyone claps when you pee and poop. Seriously. They did for my roommate Dakota.

    4. People think you’re a poor baby and give you extra stuff. And as long as you make them think you’re a poor baby, they’ll keep doing it! You have to be careful, though. If you do the poor baby thing for too long, they take you back to the v-e-t.

    5. Chicks dig scars. So you get a lot of attention from cute chicks. Did I mention I think you’re cute and that I’m available? And since I know how to use the internet, I know how to buy bus tickets. Let me know.

    Love, Evelyn

    1. Thank you, Evelyn!
I am in southern California. It does hurt and I don’t like putting much weight on that bad leg. Mama always gives me pills in cheese…bonus! I think you are a cutie pie, too! Thanks for the encouragement. I may be too drugged up to post anything for a while, but my mama promises to keep everyone updated!
      Love, Mack

  2. Good luck today Mack- we’ll be thinking of you.

One thing Evelyn forgot- you will be a star and inspiration everywhere you go!

  3. What a great little exercise to do with kids for preparing them to accept the amputation!

Uploading video files to your blog, however, will quickly consume your free storage quota. It will also require readers to download the video to watch it. If you post your videos to YouTube, you can easily embed videos right here in Mack’s blog by pasting the view page URL on a line by itself with no linking.

We hope all goes well for Mack today! Please keep us posted.

    1. Thanks! I wish I had thought of it myself, but the kids just starting acting out how Mack was going to have to get around all by themselves. I am glad I grabbed my iPhone real quick to capture the moment since it also gives us our last footage of our boy with all four legs.
Thank you for the tip on the YouTube idea instead of uploading a video file. I am a newbie to blogging but I think I’ve got it changed now. 😉

      1. Interesting. The video should auto-embed here in your blog, but you have it set as unlisted on YouTube so that may be why it isn’t.

  4. Hey Mack, my Dad told me that everything went well today! Yaaaahooo! Glad to hear that my friend, very glad. Let us know how we can help make your recovery easier OK? Something tells me that your bulldawg pawsonality will pay off and you’ll be hoppin’ around in no time. Take it easy!

  5. Aw, what a wonderful way to present this to your children. It is better for Mack to go through this now than something worse down the road. What a precious video to have of Mack on all fours. I am glad to hear that Mack was doing good so far and hope his recovery has been complete. He’s absolutely adorable!
